Supplements

Supplements, some crazy marketing scheme that has worked so well. When I was overweight and was putting all my effort into spinning with days of fasted cardio I wold try so hard. Self-belief that this was working that I was losing weight but deep down I was a target, an easy influenced customer.

My motivation was my everything I was determined to lose weight, everything I was doing would show this however it wasn’t enough. Physically I felt like I wasn’t changing after a month, I lost some weight but I was the same.  It felt like I could do more like I could invest into my body with supplements. Fat burners, full of caffeine; I was always tired. Green tea extract; I was drinking 6 cups of green tea a day even when I wasn’t thirsty just to help me lose weight. With all the other ingredients you read the description on and you realise why you haven’t lost as much weight as you could, why you don’t look like that person on the advertisement because you haven’t bought this product.

At the age of 14 I was taking 3 fat burners at the same time just to shed that fat because I thought I would be happy, 5 months after I spent 260 pounds on supplements in one month. Pre workout, protein bites, protein smoothies, protein porridge, BCAA, mass gainer, protein desert just so I could gain some muscle. Yes I was young and I got slightly carried away but 2 years later and 70 pound a month was like a direct debit just so I had my 3 protein shakes a day. 2 years to this day and I don’t take any supplements and feel better than I ever have from spending the money on the right food.

Everyone asks me what protein should I buy, what’s the best pre workout or do BCAA actually work. Here is a question you should ask yourself, how much chicken have you eaten today? Have you eaten before you trained? These will answer your questions, food is the most valuable resource we have why swap it out for some man made scam.

This is such a big debate in the industry and its why the fitness industry is growing because the supplement market is so big. People will say supplements are cheaper than all of the meat or that they don’t have enough time to eat so a protein shake is perfect as its on the go, you only need some water to make a protein shake but you need a microwave for your chicken.

Someone once told me ‘anything that tastes nice isn’t good for you’ this is so true. You should invest all of your money into real food and if you want a protein shake buy one just don’t rely on anything but your diet to help you reach your goals.
